Andrew Dickson - the Giants Brit back up

The Belfast Giants have announced the return of club legend Andrew Dickson for the 2024/2025 season. Dickson returns for his 14th season in teal and he will be looking to add a 6th Elite League championship to his honours list. Let’s look at what Dickson offers to this Giants team and what the 2024/2025 season will look like for him.

Although the Northern Irish netminder didn’t play a game in league action last season, Dickson still played a big part in the club last season. Having Dickson as an option allows Adam Keefe to field an extra import skater on nights where Whistle and Dickson are both dressed. This gives the Giants an edge on competitors and allows for healthy competition in their squad including more imports. Having this option is a huge benefit for Keefe as he looks to win back silverware from the Steelers after their Grand Slam success. Across the 2022/2023 season, Dickson registered 43 minutes of action across 2 games. In this time, he recorded a goals against average of 12.56* and a save percentage of 0.571*. Although he isn’t called upon often, Dickson is still a very capable 3rd choice netminder and is clearly a key guy in the dressing room for the Giants.

The Giants also have announced the re-signing of British netminder Jackson Whistle for the 2024/2025 season. Whistle has always doubled up with an import netminder and as his long term partner Tyler Beskorowany is leaving the Giants. @UKHockeyrumours have reported that American netminder Tom McCollum is rumoured to sign for the 2024/2025 season. Although this is still a rumour, this could be a great goaltending trio for the Giants and Adam Keefe as they look to regain an EIHL trophy.
