Blazing New Trails: Alexander Kuqali and Nick Seitz Sign with Coventry Blaze

The Coventry Blaze have announced the re-signing of Alexander Kuqali and Blaze fans couldn’t be happier! Returning for his 3rd season with the Blaze, Kuqali has been a crucial part of the locker room for the previous 2 campaigns as he has worn an ‘A’ on his jersey since arriving in the West Midlands.

Kuqali is a 32 year old d-man from the United States and often his game was very responsible for now Panthers head coach Danny Stewart. Over his 101 Blaze games, Kuqali has scored 23 points and has a +/- of +9. These numbers are hardly impressive at face value, but you do not understand what a player of Kuqali’s skill brings to a team from just numbers. His defensive awareness is what keeps him at the Blaze for a 3rd season as he seems to have found his home in Coventry. Outside of the EIHL, Kuqali has played his pro career in the East Coast Hockey League of North America. In the ECHL, he has played an astonishing 279 games where he recorded 78 points.

This is a clever bit of business for Kevin Moore as key leaders in the dressing room will help bring along his young squad in the 2024/2025 season. The 32 year old will be expected to play most nights like he has done in the past for the Blaze.

Another signing made by the Blaze is new forward Nick Seitz. Seitz, who is playing his first pro season in Coventry, will be a key player in Kevin Moore’s squad as the Blaze look to get a playoff place and a position in the final 4 of the challenge cup. Seitz will no doubt help this as the 24 year old American is able to score points left right and centre. Last season, Seitz represented Princeton University where he scored 23 points in 30 games playing in the NCAA. A new and ambitious signing like this is good for the Blaze as they look to move forward into a new chapter with Kevin Moore. Standing at 6’1”, Seitz is a big body who is capable of playing 3rd/4th line Hockey in the Elite League.

Overall, I think both Kuqali and Seitz are great pick ups by the Blaze for their push next season and it will be interesting to see how they get on in the 2024/2025 campaign.
