Coventry Blaze Welcomes Zach Vinnell as New Assistant Coach Following Early Retirement

Introduction

Zach Vinnell, a name that recently emerged in the hockey world, made his professional debut just one and a half seasons ago. Last season, Vinnell played for both the Glasgow Clan and the Sheffield Steelers. Now, he returns to the EIHL in a new role as the assistant coach of the Coventry Blaze, following his retirement from playing.

Time before the EIHL

Zach Vinnel signed his first professional contract with the Indy Fuel in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) in the second half of the 22/23 season. He was thought to hit the road running with his shooting prowess and great two way game and these thoughts were reality as he would ice for 16 games scoring 10 points which for a first time professional to do so in a league as good as the ECHL. This was exactly what he wanted his career to be like but he wouldn’t return to the ECHL.


Time with the Glasgow Clan

During the 23/24 offseason, Vinnell decided he would make the move across the pond to play for the Glasgow Clan in the EIHL under Jason Morgan. Fans were happy when they heard that Vinnell was signing for the Clan, as they thought he could bring his offensive prowess to the squad; however, this was ot the case as he struggled to get going when he played 21 games but lacked in points majorly, only putting up five which made fans think that Vinnell was a bust.


Time with the Sheffield Steelers

Zach Vinnell was released by the Glasgow Clan mid season which caused him to look for a new team and he found one. Despite rumours and people's opinions; Vinnell went on to sign for the Sheffield Steelers. He would skate for them on 21 occasions and was a key player when there were injuries to cover on the team. Offering a good sense of knowledge on both ends of the ice was key to helping the Steelers win all three cups. He would play the majority of the time as a defenseman but was willing to be a left winger when required. He finished the season with 10 Pts between both teams with 8 assists.


Transition to Coaching and Joining Coventry Blaze

Despite his relatively short professional playing career of just one and a half years, Zach Vinnell's transition to coaching marks a significant and promising new chapter.
