Flyers Pursue Pavlovs, But Star Forward Eyes European Deal.

Vitālijs Pavlovs joined the Fife Flyers on December 1, 2023, seeking redemption after a rough stint in Slovakia. Entering the EIHL with a point to prove, Pavlovs aimed to turn his season around, just as Coach Coolen looked to rally his team for a comeback.

Vitālijs Pavlovs signed with the Fife Flyers after a call from former Latvian national team assistant coach Toms Külens, who relayed Coach Tom Coolen's interest in bringing him on for the rest of the 23/24 season. Pavlovs eagerly accepted, needing a new club after his release from his previous team. This signing was crucial for the Fife Flyers, and the fans couldn't have been happier.

Standing at six-foot-four and weighing 223 pounds, Vitālijs Pavlovs entered the Elite Ice Hockey League as a formidable force. As one of the tallest centermen in the league, he dominated faceoffs and made it tough for opponents to challenge him. Known for his physicality, Pavlovs frequently used his size to his advantage, making opposing players wary of his hits. He also excelled in front of the net, using his stature to screen goalies and facilitate scoring opportunities.

Pavlovs would play a total of 39 games with the Flyers putting up 19 points in that game span.

It's safe to say Pavlovs had a successful season, and so did the Flyers, with both achieving their goals. Therefore, it's no surprise that the Fife Flyers would love to re-sign the towering forward. However, Pavlovs isn't looking to return to the club, as he's eyeing a move to a European league. As he approaches the end of his career, he prefers to join a team with fewer North American players to manage his playing time. Additionally, Pavlovs revealed to Hokeja Zinas that he faced some off-ice issues at the Fife Flyers, suggesting that the off-ice experience could have been better.

Pavlovs' skill level makes him a strong fit for various European leagues like DEL2, Germany3, and France2. While he could thrive as a top-six forward for the Fife Flyers, a return seems unlikely. Will we see him depart, or can Coolen persuade him to stay?
