Gleason Fournier: Cardiff Devils' Pursuit of Glory

After spending 4 seasons away from the Devils, Gleason Fournier has finally decided to rekindle the relationship between himself and the Cardiff franchise. Gleason has signed a two year contract which will see him through until 2026. Fournier has the ability to be one of the stand out defencemen in the league as the 32 year old Canadian looks to add a 3rd EIHL title to his winners list.

During the 2023/2034 season, Fournier played for Fehervar AV19 where he scored 17 points in 46 games. For a defenceman, these numbers are impressive especially when you pair them with a positive +/- (+8). During his previous 6 seasons in the Elite Ice Hockey League, Fournier has boasted an impressive stat line as he has scored 207 points in 230 games. This is very impressive for a defenceman, however not surprising with a player of Fournier’s ability. During the 2018/2019 season, which saw the Devils lose out on regulation wins to the Belfast Giants for the league title, Fournier was the second highest point scorer on the Devils roster as he scored 71 points in 60 games from the blue line. Other returning player Cody Donaghey also played a season in Hungary with Fournier where they played 13 games together. Locker room chemistry will be crucial for Pete Russell and the experience of Fournier will be key in making a winning formula to see silverware return to Wales after 2 seasons of no trophies.

If the Devils are to succeed in the 2024/2025 season, Fournier will be a key player in proceedings as his 2 way game will contribute to wins and losses on the Devils behalf. Being able to play power play and penalty kill, helps the cause as his numbers almost mean the Devils can ice 13 forwards a night with Fournier in the team.
