The Grand Slam champions continue to strengthen their lineup as Mark Simpson is unveiled as the latest returnee to the Steelers.

As the season gets closer and closer to its beginning, the Sheffield Steelers are racking up the signings as Mark Simpson is confirmed as joining back the league cup and playoff winners. Aaron Fox signed Simpson up for the 2023/2024 season and fans didn’t really know what to expect of the centreman. It quickly became apparent that the 6’5” forward was going to be a key part of the Steelers success as his penalty kill, power play and five on five ability is all of the highest standard.

Simpson has only been a professional for four seasons, but he's already demonstrated his potential as an outstanding player. While his point totals may not always reflect his true impact, his value extends far beyond the scoresheet. Simpson possesses a deep understanding of the game and consistently sets up plays, creating numerous opportunities for his teammates. His ability to read the game and make crucial plays highlights his importance to the team, proving he's much more valuable than his statistics alone might suggest.

During the 2023/2024 campaign, Simpson scored an impressive 31 points in 50 games. This included 4 short handed goals which is very impressive. Having played in some very impressive leagues, Simpson will be another key part of the Steelers Champions Hockey League and EIHL campaigns. The 29 year old will have his first taste of CHL hockey this season as he aims to win a few games of a tough group stage. The Steelers will travel to Switzerland on the 5th September for their first game of the season.

As Aaron Fox looks to defend his titles, he has pencilled Simpson into his middle six as of now but is open to change as the season develops. Fox told Peter Spencer that he can see Simpson being a 60 point forward in this league. This may seem strange to begin with but the forward only started scoring in the new year of last campaign. With a full season settled in, it will be interesting to see how Simpson scores and who he will play with.

With faith from Coach Fox, we can expect Simpson to make significant strides in his performance, further solidifying his role as a key player for the Steelers. Coach Fox's confidence in Simpson's abilities indicates a promising future, where Simpson's deep understanding of the game and his knack for setting up crucial plays will be invaluable. As he continues to develop and refine his skills, Simpson is poised to contribute significantly to the team's success, helping the Steelers to achieve their goals and maintain their status as Grand Slam champions. His dedication and potential make him a vital asset, and under Coach Fox's guidance, Simpson's growth will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the team's continued triumphs.
